TOBY Awards Entrance Deadline Approaching
The TOBY Award and Earth Award programs are the most prestigious and comprehensive awards programs of their kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing quality in office buildings and awarding excellence in building management and environmental stewardship. The TOBY Award recognizes all facets of a building's operations, including tenant relations programs, community involvement, emergency preparedness, security standards, and continuing education for building personnel. The Earth Award recognizes excellence in environmentally sound office building management. The deadline to enter your building is Dec. 31, 2009. Going Green Has Never Been Easier!
GREEN Real Estate Summit 2010
The GREEN Real Estate Summit 2010, presented by BOMA-Atlanta, will be held Feb. 16 and 17 at the Green Seal Certified Emory Conference Center Hotel. The GREEN Real Estate Summit is the first meeting of its kind in the state of Georgia. It brings together commercial real estate owners, property managers, facility managers, building engineers and companies providing green products and services to learn about the benefits of utilizing sustainable practices. Specifically, the event will focus on sustainable operations and maintenance of existing buildings.
In addition to a handful of educational sessions, the GREEN Real Estate Summit will feature a GREEN Showcase, where vendors will exhibit products and services that can assist in the sustainable operations and maintenance of existing buildings. BOMA-Atlanta Freezes Membership Dues
BOMA-Atlanta has frozen membership dues for 2010 at the current 2009 level. Freezing membership dues is one step in a series of efforts BOMA-Atlanta is making to serve members during this difficult economic environment. The association has also offered a variety of free and low-cost educational programs for members and also continues to provide value to building owners through government advocacy.
BOMI Introduces New Computer Based Testing
Starting January 1, 2010, BOMI is moving to computer-based testing for all courses. With this change, there will be a $60 additional BOMI fee for each test taken on computer under the new BOMI testing system. BTO Lunch
(December 3, 11) Sponsored by Atlanta's Best Services, this month's topic is "Fire Preparation: what information is needed for the fire department to fight a fire or handle other emergencies?". BOMA Technical Organization (BTO) Quarterly Luncheons bring together building engineers and others interested in the technical aspects of properly maintaining commercial properties.
Ethics is Good Business ShortCourse
(December 7) This course helps you understand the affect that ethical behavior can have on your professional performance and your property's bottom line. Through presentations of real-life scenarios and case studies, you will identify and resolve ethical dilemmas that can occur on the job.
HR Laws and Career Growth Issues for Managers
(December 9) This seminar will cover the legal aspects of employee management, including equal employment opportunity issues, illegal harassment on the job, labor relations, wage and hour laws, and occupational safety and health issues.The seminar is part of the BOMA-Atlanta Human Resources Management program. Individuals who complete all five seminars in the series will be awarded a Human Resources Management certificate. Young Professionals Lunch and Learn
(December 15) The event topic will be: "Strategies for Dealing with H1N1 in the Workplace" with Jennifer Murphy and Joy Wells of the Cobb & Douglas County Public Health Department. In addition, there will be a discussion of ideas for 2010 Young Professionals event topics. Participation is limited to the first 40 registrants, so register early for this event.
Commercial HVAC - Fifth Semester
(January 7) Designed for building engineers, the Commercial HVAC course provides an opportunity to enhance service skills through hands-on training. The course will enable beginning engineers and those with experience to become more proficient in the work environment. This is the fifth in a five-semester series. You are not required to take the semesters in sequence.
January BOMA Luncheon
(January 13) BOMA luncheons are enjoyable and educational. They are also a valuable networking and professional development experience. A new member orientation will precede the luncheon at 10:30 a.m.

LEED AP Operations and Maintenance Exam Prep
(January 26) This one-day class will provide in-depth overview of the recent changes to the LEED AP exam structure and a full day's training the at will prepare attendees to take the exam. In addition to this in-person training, attendees will receive access for 60-days of post-class online exam simulators, which will reinforce the knowledge gained by attending this course.
Asset Management Course
(January 27) Today's property managers work hand-in-hand with asset managers and often serve as asset managers themselves.
