Going Green Has Never Been Easier!
GREEN Real Estate Summit 2010


The GREEN Real Estate Summit 2010, presented by BOMA-Atlanta, will be held Feb. 16 and 17 at the Green Seal Certified Emory Conference Center Hotel. The GREEN Real Estate Summit is the first meeting of its kind in the state of Georgia. It brings together commercial real estate owners, property managers, facility managers, building engineers and companies providing green products and services to learn about the benefits of utilizing sustainable practices. Specifically, the event will focus on sustainable operations and maintenance of existing buildings. In addition to a handful of educational sessions, the GREEN Real Estate Summit will feature a GREEN Showcase, where vendors will exhibit products and services that can assist in the sustainable operations and maintenance of existing buildings. The recently launched GREEN Real Estate Summit Web site shares all of the information you need about the event, including a Summit schedule, registration information, details on where you can stay and much more. 2009-2010 (TOBY) / Earth Award Competition Now Open!
 
The TOBY Award and Earth Award programs are the most prestigious and comprehensive awards programs of their kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing quality in office buildings and awarding excellence in building management and environmental stewardship.  The TOBY Award recognizes all facets of a building's operations, including tenant relations programs, community involvement, emergency preparedness, security standards, and continuing education for building personnel. The Earth Award recognizes excellence in environmentally sound office building management. For those that are interested in learning more about how to enter a building, understanding the judging process, and hearing tips for making your entry the best it can be, join us for one of two TOBY/Earth Award Entrant Workshops:
 
Thursday, November 12, 2009:  3:30pm to 4:30pm

Tuesday, December 1, 2009:  8:30am to 9:30am

CBA Voter Guide

The Committee for a Better Atlanta (CBA), a coalition of Atlanta businesses and business organizations, recently released its Consumer Reports-style of the candidates running for Mayor and City Council in the City of Atlanta. The CBA Voter Guide scores candidates on business issues important to the community at-large. BOMA-Atlanta is a member of the CBA and assisted in the scoring process. New ASIS Security Conference

In an effort to provide greater value to the security, law enforcement and business communities, ASIS International proudly announces that it will host a regional security conference on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Gwinnett Center.  This program will address a wide range of security topics including, business watch crime prevention programs, cyber crime, information security and other current and emerging security challenges and issues. BOMA-Atlanta Freezes Membership Dues

BOMA-Atlanta has frozen membership dues for 2010 at the current 2009 level. Freezing membership dues is one step in a series of efforts BOMA-Atlanta is making to serve members during this difficult economic environment. The association has also offered a variety of free and low-cost educational programs for members and also continues to provide value to building owners through government advocacy.
 

Guidance for Businesses and Employers to Plan and Respond to the 2009 - 2010 Influenza Season

The CDC has developed updated guidance for employers of all sizes to use as they develop or review and update plans to respond to 2009 H1N1 influenza now and during the upcoming fall and winter influenza season. Businesses and employers, in general, play a key role in protecting employees' health and safety, as well as in limiting the negative impact of influenza outbreaks on the individual, the community, and the nation's economy. BOMI Introduces New Computer Based Testing

Starting January 1, 2010, BOMI is moving to computer-based testing for all courses. With this change, there will be a $60 additional BOMI fee for each test taken on computer under the new BOMI testing system. Aerial Platform and Forklift Safety Seminar

(October 21) Aerial work platform (AWP) training will cover an understanding of the responsibilities of AWP operation, how to conduct a prestart inspection, how to conduct a workplace inspection, knowledge of hazards involved in AWP operation, various types of AWPs available, how to prevent workplace accidents & hands-on training.

Electrical Systems and Illumination

(October 21) To be able to safely operate and maintain a building's electrical equipment, you must thoroughly understand the components of electrical systems and how to measure the electricity your building consumes. This course provides you with a clear understanding of electricity basics, the skills needed to measure electrical consumption, and the ability to recognize, set up, and maintain reliable and effective maintenance and safety systems.
