75 Piedmont Avenue Wins Award. 75 Piedmont Avenue was recently named the Best Building Lobby in Central Atlanta Progress' Atlanta Downtown Design Excellence Awards contest. A panel of judges comprised of recognized professionals in architecture and design selected finalists from the variety of buildings nominated for the first-ever Atlanta Downtown Design Excellence Awards. The awards were given to buildings that completed construction/remodeling between Aug. 1, 2005, and July 31, 2006. 75 Piedmont Avenue is managed by BOMA member Nilsa Collazo, Urban America.
TOBY Awards. Enter your building in the 2007 TOBY/Earth Awards Contest. Additional information is posted on the BOMA website. A free workshop for individuals interested in entering a building in the contest will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2007, at the BOMA office. To register, e-mail sbarton@boma-atlanta.org. The deadline for notice of intent to enter is Jan. 19, 2007.

Design, Operation and Maintenance Part 2, Accelerated Course. (Dec. 13) This course provides information property and facility managers need to make management decisions about various building systems and sites, decisions that will increase occupant safety and comfort while facilitating building efficiency to meet the business goals of an organization. The course provides an understanding of electrical systems and lighting, elevator maintenance and modernization, and pest and solid waste management. It also covers security issues, fire and safety systems, and energy management concerns.
Commercial HVAC Course. (Jan. 11, 2007) Designed for building engineers, the course provides an opportunity to enhance service skills through hands-on training. It is taught by Chattahoochee Technical College. It will enable engineers to become more proficient in the work environment. Course topics will include commercial refrigeration systems, energy management, DDC controls, pneumatic calibration, cooling tower maintenance, air handlers, pumps, boilers, water and air balancing and other topics. A certificate of completion will be issued to show attendance and completion of the required material. The classes may be taken in conjunction with SMA classes or any other seminars.
Emergency Planning Seminar - Emergency Plan Components. (Jan. 25, 2007) The first in a series of three seminars, it will include a discussion of terrorism, homeland defense, and conventional threat management. The first hour of the program will focus on the nations terror threat and how this impacts the Class A property manager. Topics of discussion will include potential terror scenarios that could affect Class A properties and assessing the vulnerability of your property. The second and third hour of the program will focus on how to prevent, mitigate, manage and recover from three common and most likely threats that a property manager will face: fire, water damage and criminal activity.

BTO Luncheon. (Dec. 7 & Dec. 14) This educational program has been designed specifically for building engineers. The same program will be presented on Dec. 7 at the Loudermilk Center downtown and Dec. 14 at the AGC office in Marietta. BTO members are required to pre-register for the luncheon. The luncheons are sponsored by Critical Systems.
