BOMA-ATLANTA NEWS

Vote Yes on Amendment #2. There are three amendments to the Georgia state constitution you will be voting on in the Nov. 4 election. The second amendment authorizes local school districts to use tax funds for community redevelopment purposes. Support the rights of property owners and managers and vote “yes” on amendment #2. Tax allocation districts (TADs) stimulate real estate development where developers might not find financing. The amendment would not authorize any specific TAD projects, and school boards would retain the right not to use school taxes on projects. 2008-2009 TOBY Competition Now Open. The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing building quality and management excellence. Local winners of the TOBY Award advance to regional competition, and regional winners advance to international competition. Now is the time to nominate your building and demonstrate its value to your owner! To enter a building into competition, download the entry requirements packet, complete the Notice of Intent and Data Information Sheet, and send them to the BOMA-Atlanta office by Dec. 31, 2008. To learn TOBY best practices and competition tips, attend a free TOBY workshop on Nov. 19 or Dec. 9. To register for the free Nov. TOBY workshop, click here. To register for the free Dec. Holiday Volunteer Opportunities. There are several opportunities during the upcoming holiday season for you to engage with Hillside through the BOMA-Atlanta Community Service Committee. At 8 a.m. on Nov. 14, BOMA members will gather at Hillside to volunteer to perform various landscaping projects around the campus. For more information or to volunteer, contact Daphne Watkins at daphnewatkins@piedmontlandscape.com. This year’s Hillside holiday event will be held Dec. 15. Volunteer to help with the event or provide support at the Nov. BOMA-Atlanta luncheon. For more information or to volunteer, contact Kinsey Roberts at kroberts@behringerharvard.com.

2008 Salary Survey.Thirty property management companies that are members of BOMA-Atlanta have provided information to form the basis for our bi-annual salary survey. The survey provides a useful way to benchmark salary and benefits within the commercial real estate industry, and it can be a useful tool during this year’s budgeting process. Survey participants receive a free copy. This year, for the first time, we will be offering a package deal. You can save money by ordering both the 2008 survey and the 2006 survey. Purchasing both allows you to compare and contrast costs over the years. To download the survey order form, click here.

BOMA Launches SOS Program. Need help making sense of sustainability? BOMA International's SOS program is here! The Sustainable Operations Series (SOS) of four Webinars will cut through the overwhelming and sometimes confusing information in the marketplace and teach practical ways to green your building's operations. Whether you're looking to implement some new cost-savings measures or preparing for LEED® certification, every step you take can positively impact your bottom line and the community. For more information, including Webinar dates and costs, click here.

Support the BOMA PAC. During the past few years, BOMA-Atlanta’s legislative efforts have returned value to building owners and protected the industry from undue regulation, leading to significant tax savings, less government regulation and other victories. A strong Political Action Committee (PAC) is necessary to maintain this legislative momentum. The BOMA PAC supports political candidates whose views are most aligned with the commercial real estate industry. Your company’s financial support of the BOMA PAC is critical to providing legislative representation and protecting the value of the buildings you own and manage. To support the PAC, make your contribution payable to the BOMA Political Action Committee and mail it to the BOMA-Atlanta office at 2987 Clairmont Road NE, Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30329.
