Floor Measurement Standards. Over the last century, the BOMA Floor Measurement Standards have evolved into the most widely used and respected measurement standards in the commercial real estate industry. Approved and endorsed by American National Standards Institute (ANSI)the BOMA Office Measurement Standard is the most accurate way for real estate professionals to calculate rentable area used in leases and allocate building expenses. BOMA International produces two standards: Standard Method For Measuring Floor Area in Office Buildings and Industrial Floor Measurement Standard.
Southern Region President Message. In preparation for strategic planning, BOMA Southern Region will be sending a survey to BOMA members on Nov. 1. The purpose of the survey will be to gather information of our Southern Region members and gain perspective of where our organization stands in the present and strategize the next three to five years into the future. Please watch for the survey soon.
Date Change. The dates of the upcoming Security Seminar Series has changed. The title of the seminar series has also been changed to better reflect the seminar content. The new dates are as follows: Emergency Plan Components, January 25, 2007; Emergency Plan Development, February 22, 2007; Emergency Plan Testing and Tabletop Exercises, March 22, 2007. Look for registration details online soon.

Property Management 201. (Oct. 31) BOMA is launching a new course, building on the huge success of PM 101. Property Management 201 is he next step for individuals who have completed PM 101 or who have more experience in the property management field. The five-day course, taught over five consecutive weeks, will include instruction on accounting and reporting; leasing and marketing; managing risk; emergency planning; and management skills.
Environmental Health and Safety, Accelerated Course. (Nov. 1) This course provides you with an overview of the environmental health and safety considerations in building operations. You will learn to develop and manage proactive environmental/occupational health and safety programs, comply with regulatory standards and guidelines governing facility health and safety issues, and assess when to obtain technical assistance.
BEEP Audio Seminar 6, Building an Energy Performance Program. (Nov. 10) This audio seminar presents the key components of an energy awareness program for tenants, owners, brokers and asset managers. The training focuses on how to create an effective awareness program, communicate accomplishments and benefits to key stakeholders, and provides samples and templates for attendees to easily customize.
Fundamentals of Real Property Administration, Accelerated Course. (Nov. 15) To fulfill the role of property manager in today's marketplace, you must be knowledgeable in many areas. You are expected to manage buildings; communicate with employees, managers, and tenants; protect the interests of the owner; market property; negotiate leases; and protect the environment. By providing an overview of the property management profession, this course helps you understand, and integrate, the many duties and responsibilities of a property manager.

BOMA Luncheon and Annual Meeting. (Nov. 8) The featured speaker at the November Luncheon and Annual Meeting will be Henry Chamberlain, who is with BOMA International. The sponsor is Mid America Metals.
BOMA Bash. (Nov. 16) BOMA Bash is an informal social and networking opportunity for property managers, facility managers and building engineers, hosted by a select group of allied member sponsors. There is no charge to attend the event, although advance registration is required.
