BOMA-ATLANTA NEWS

Fight the Atlanta Water Surcharge. Atlanta City Council members are considering placing a 15 percent surcharge on all water used within city limits--whether for residential, commercial or industrial purposes. On Wednesday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m., Atlanta City Council members will hold a public hearing at Council Chambers in City Hall to address utilities issues, including the 15 percent surcharge. Protect your valuable interests! Attend the March 19 public hearing and call your representative to make sure that this surcharge is not approved. There will be representatives from BOMA-Atlanta at the public hearing to speak on behalf on the association. To view a list of Council members and their contact information, click here. To view the surcharge ordinance is its present form, click here.

View the Cobb County Drought Response Plan. In February, Governor Sonny Perdue legislated that water use in 61 North Georgia counties be reduced in 2008 to result in 90 percent of the average water used for the months April through September of 2007. In response, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners has approved a spring/summer Drought Response Plan, effective through September 2008. Among the plan's commercial property restrictions are water waste penalties, water allowances of 90 percent of last year’s peak average and commercial water audit programs for high water users. Leak detection equipment will be available to a limited number of commercial properties. To read the full Cobb County plan, click here.

There will be networking and wine tasting at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon along with a raffle and auction. All proceeds from the event will support Hillside's programs for children with emotional and behavior difficulties. Seating is limited. To register for the luncheon, click here. For more information, please contact Hillside staff members Gabriela Rowland at 404-875-4551, ext. 156, and Cindi Cooper at 404-875-4551, ext. 216.

BOMA-Atlanta Member Named to Community Affairs Task Force. Recently, BOMA-Atlanta was asked by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to recommend a BOMA member for a special seven-person task force to study the Permissive Codes of Georgia. The members are tasked by Governor Sonny Perdue to review the Permissive Codes and make recommendations to the State Codes Advisory Committee of Georgia. BOMA-Atlanta nominated Mark G. Roth with Lincoln Property Company, and the DCA recently appointed him to serve on the task force representing the state of Georgia. Roth was named the 2007 BOMA Engineer of the Year at the February 13 awards banquet. Congratulations, Mark!
