Invest in Leadership through the BOMA-Atlanta Leadership Academy. The rapid pace of change in today’s commercial real estate environment demands that the managers of today become the leaders of tomorrow. To address this shift, we have created the BOMA-Atlanta Leadership Academy. The Academy is designed for all property and facility managers, and for building engineers who have management responsibilities. A class of 20 to 22 BOMA-Atlanta members will be selected for the 2008 Academy. BOMA membership is required to participate. If you or someone you know would be a good candidate for the Academy, contact Gabriel Eckert at geckert@boma-atlanta.org. For more information or to download an application form, click here. Applications are due February 29.
Review the Georgia Power Rate Case Decision. The Georgia Public Service Commission recently reached a decision on Georgia Power's rate case filing. The new rates go into effect January 1, 2008, and will be in place until December 31, 2010. The company’s allowed return on equity will be set at 11.25 percent, with an earnings band between 10.25 and 12.25 percent. Earnings over 12.25 percent will be split, with one-third credited against environmental cost recovery and two-thirds applied to rate reductions. To read a more detailed summary of the filing's effect, click here.
Create Your Magic at the BOMA Southern Region Conference. Don't forget to register for the BOMA Southern Region Conference, hosted by BOMA-Orlando. Book your hotel room before all the conference rooms are sold out. All-inclusive registration for the conference, including the TOBY Dinner Awards dinner, is only $405! Participate in the Green BOMA EER Survey. BOMA International's Experience Exchange Report (EER) is all about improving performance through shared data. Mark your calendar to participate in this green EER survey. You can submit your data from January 15 through March 20. As always, your data will be kept confidential, and only aggregated, summary analyses will be provided. For more information about the EER survey, contact BOMA International Research Project Manager Noah Schechtman at 202-326-6339 or eer@boma.org.

UPCOMING EDUCATIONAL COURSES
Click on the course title to register. Dates listed are course start dates.
Design, Operation and Maintenance, Part I. (Febuary 27) This course provides the information property and facility managers need to manage the ongoing operation and maintenance of building systems and to maximize building efficiency and cost-effectiveness. It also provides information on building design and construction, project delivery, construction materials and HVAC (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning) systems. Other areas covered in the course include roofing systems, ceilings and floorings, interior walls and plumbing systems.
Intelligent NextGen Buildings: Combining Technology with Improved Building Systems. (February 28). Building aren't just bricks and mortar anymore. Today's "intelligent buildings" incorporate building automation, structured cabling, wireless systems and controls, remote operations, digital signage and touch-screen directories, flexible design, automated parking and paperless business processes--all for an enhanced tenant experience and improved operating results. This exciting, fast-paced seminar will take you through the evolution of the intelligent building, describe the components that define these projects, present international case studies and define the methodology for establishing ROI. This course is a must-attend primer for building owners, developers, property managers, architects, facility managers, engineers, system integrators and consultants.
Asset Management. (March 26) Property managers today work hand-in-hand with asset managers and often serve as asset managers themselves. Therefore, you need to understand the asset manager's role, function, and place in real estate and business. This course will detail the role and responsibilities of an asset manager, as well as provide you with the skills to fulfill this position. You will learn to develop an asset management plan, including appropriate human, physical, and financial resources. You will learn about the measurement of financial objectives, including audits and reasons for them. You will gain an understanding of property acquisition, disposition, and evaluation of troubled property alternatives.
Commercial HVAC--Fifth Semester. (March 27) The BOMA Technical Organization (BTO) has partnered with Chattahoochee Technical College to offer a Commercial HVAC course for building engineers. This is the fifth course in the five-semester series. Semester courses are topic-specific and may be taken out of sequence. A certificate of completion will be issued to show attendance and completion of the required material. The classes may be taken in conjunction with SMA classes or any other seminars.
