Free December TOBY Workshop. Earn recognition for your building and highlight the skills of your management team to your owner by entering this year's TOBY and Earth Award programs. Learn more about how to enter your building in the TOBY Awards program. It is easier than you think. The TOBY Committee is hosting a free workshop so you can learn more about the TOBY process. The workshop includes a free lunch and will be held at 11:30 a.m. on December 5. To register, RSVP to Beth Abbott at babbott@boma-atlanta.org or contact Beth at 404-475-9980. To enter your building into competition, download and complete a Notice of Intent and Data Information Sheet and send them to the BOMA-Atlanta office. Both forms are required along with payment for any building entering the competition. Applications and fees are due to the BOMA-Atlanta office December 31, 2007.

2008 Courses Now on the Web. Through BOMI, BOMA-Atlanta offers coursework for RPA, FMA, SMA and SMT designations, which are a sign of professional achievement. 2008 courses have been added to the BOMA-Atlanta Web site. Mark your calendars for these great professional development courses. BOMA Property Management (PM) 101 and 201 course dates will soon be posted as well. Help Hillside This Holiday Season. BOMA-Atlanta Community Service Committee (CSC) members continue their support of Hillside with the holiday Angel Tree and holiday party. You can be an angel for a Hillside child this holiday season by selecting Angel Tree gift items to give to Hillside students. The CSC is also partnering with Hillside staff to provide Hillside children with a holiday party that features presents from Santa. Volunteers can assist in purchasing, wrapping and distributing the presents. UPCOMING EDUCATIONAL COURSES

Fundamentals of Facilities Management. (November 28) Successful facilities managers must have business savvy supported by a broad scope of technical knowledge. This course provides the base from which to build a career in facilities management. You will learn how to structure and manage operations and maintenance programs and how to manage personnel effectively to control workload. You will gain an understanding of the importance of facilities management to business organizations and operations, while also learning strategies for internal marketing. You will likewise acquire project management and leadership skills crucial to your success.

Ethics Is Good Business Short Course. (December 3) This course will help you understand the effect that ethical behavior can have on your professional performance and your property's bottom line. Through presentations of real-life scenarios and case studies, you will identify and resolve ethical dilemmas that can occur on the job. Your textbook will be handed out in the classroom.

Facilities Planning and Project Management. (December 12) Through this course, you will develop the skills and knowledge critical to the successful execution of a facilities project: proper planning, selecting a building's team and following through with attention to detail. You will learn how to assemble and manage facilities teams and how to plan and implement facilities projects, including methods to control key elements of the process. In this course you will examine case studies on SFP models, project management methods and outcomes. You will also study how to close out projects, how to complete and use a facilities annual report, and how to read and interpret architectural drawings.

Commercial HVAC--Fourth Semester. (January 10) The BOMA Technical Organization (BTO) has partnered with Chattahoochee Technical College to offer a Commercial HVAC course for building engineers. This is the fourth course in the five-semester series. Semester courses are topic-specific and may be taken out of sequence. A certificate of completion will be issued to show attendance and completion of the required material. The classes may be taken in conjunction with SMA classes or any other seminars.

UPCOMING EVENTS

BTO Lunch
. (December 6 and 13) BTO quarterly luncheons bring together building engineers and others interested in the technical aspects of properly maintaining commercial properties. Each luncheon includes educational coverage of a topic important to the industry. The December BTO luncheons are sponsored by Philips Lighting. The December lunch topic is what building engineers need to know about electrical power and power companies. To register for the December 6 luncheon at the Loudermilk Center, click here. BOMA-Atlanta Holiday Social Presented by Malone Construction. (December 6) The 2007 BOMA-Atlanta Holiday Social presented by Malone Construction brings together building owners, property and facility managers, building engineers and allied members in an informal setting to network and socialize. The social will be held at 1420 Peachtree Street NE, courtesy of Urbana Realty Advisors. Allied members have the opportunity to purchase packets of raffle cards for distribution to customers. January BOMA Luncheon. (January 9) BOMA luncheons are enjoyable and educational. They are also a valuable networking and professional development experience. Members may attend a BOMA luncheon at no charge by registering on or before the Friday before the luncheon. Membership is determined by an individual name, not company affiliation. Members who do not register by the cut-off date must pay a $25.00 late fee to attend the event.

BOMA Day at the Capitol. (January 31) The BOMA-Atlanta Government Affairs Committee is hosting the annual BOMA Day at the Capitol from 8 a.m. to noon on January 31, 2008. During the event, BOMA-Atlanta members interact informally with elected officials, Capitol staffers and others involved in state politics. No registration is required.

TOBY Association and Awards Banquet. (February 13) Watch your colleagues 
be recognized for their accomplishments and learn what it takes to manage an award-winning building at the association awards banquet. Registration and payment are required for this event. The banquet hall allows for 10 seats per table. If you purchase 10 seats for the banquet, please indicate that you would like all the seats to be located at the same table.
