Volunteer for the Hillside Gazebo Project. BOMA-Atlanta is proud of our strong partnership with Hillside, Atlanta ’s oldest organized charity. As part of ongoing work, BOMA-Atlanta's Community Service Committee will be re-landscaping Hillside and creating a gazebo. BOMA-Atlanta members are needed to help with the gazebo construction, which is planned for September 29 and 30. Your contribution can make a difference in the lives of Georgia's children. If you would be interested in working on the gazebo, contact team leader Tim Thomas of Double T Contracting at tt@doubletcontracting.com.
2007-2008 TOBY Information Now Available Online. Earn recognition for your building and highlight the skills of your management team to your owner by entering this year's TOBY and Earth Award programs. The TOBY Award and Earth Award are the most prestigious and comprehensive awards programs of their kind in the commercial real estate industry, recognizing quality in office buildings and awarding excellence in office building management and environmental stewardship. Click here to download the 2007-2008 TOBY and Earth Award entry requirements. To enter a building into competition, download and complete a Notice of Intent and Data Information Sheet and send them to the BOMA-Atlanta office. Both of these forms are required along with payment for any building entering the competition. Applications and fees are due to the BOMA-Atlanta office December 31, 2007.
BOMA-Atlanta Leadership Nominations. It's time to consider BOMA leadership positions for 2008. Positions are available on the BOMA-Atlanta Board of Directors and as a BOMA-Atlanta officer. Serving as an elected leader in BOMA-Atlanta is an exciting opportunity to help set the direction for the association for years to come. The Board of Directors meets quarterly and also conducts an annual strategic planning retreat. If you are interested in serving your association in a leadership capacity or know anyone who is a good candidate to serve, please forward the individual's name, company and phone number to Gabriel Eckert at geckert@boma-atlanta.org or call 404-475-9980. BOMA-Atlanta Launches New Leadership Program. BOMA-Atlanta will be launching a new leadership program in 2008. The program will be open to 20-22 members who are property managers, facility managers and building engineers with management responsibilities. The five-day program will focus on leadership and self-awareness development; time and stress management; negotiation skills; understanding your motivational value system to manage conflict; and creating a motivating work environment. The tuition is anticipated to be $1,175. If you or someone you know may be a good candidate for this program, be sure to include this tuition fee in your budget for 2008. Design, Operation and Maintenance II. (September 19) This course provides property and facility managers with the information to make management decisions about various building systems and sites--decisions that will increase occupant safety and comfort while facilitating building efficiency and meeting business goals. You will gain an understanding of electrical systems and lighting, elevator maintenance and modernization, and pest and solid waste management. The course also covers security issues, fire and safety systems, and energy management concerns.
BOMA PM 101. (October 4) Explore the world of property management through Property Management 101, a five-day course taught over five weeks. This dynamic course combines classroom-style learning, interaction with industry professionals, and behind-the-scenes tours of metro-Atlanta buildings. It is designed for assistant property and facility managers and others who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the industry. The Georgia Real Estate Commission has approved this course for 24 hours of Continuing Education Units.
Commercial HVAC--Third Semester. (October 2) The BOMA Technical Organization (BTO) has partnered with Chattahoochee Technical College to offer a Commercial HVAC course for building engineers. This is the third course in the five-semester series. Semester courses are topic-specific and may be taken out of sequence. A certificate of completion will be issued to show attendance and completion of the required material. The classes may be taken in conjunction with SMA classes or any other seminars.
Environmental Health and Safety Issues. (October 10) This course provides you with an overview of the environmental health and safety considerations in building operations. You will learn to develop and manage proactive environmental/ occupational health and safety programs, comply with regulatory standards and guidelines governing facility health and safety issues, and assess when to obtain technical assistance.
Fundamentals of Facilities Management. (October 24) Successful facilities managers must have business savvy supported by a broad scope of technical knowledge. This course provides the base from which to build a career in facilities management. You will learn how to structure and manage operations and maintenance programs and how to manage personnel effectively to control workload. You will gain an understanding of the importance of facilities management to business organizations and operations, while also learning strategies for internal marketing. You will likewise acquire project management and leadership skills crucial to your success.
Electrical Safety Seminar. (October 30) On any given day, there are between 5 and 10 flash incidents in the United States. BOMA's Electrical Safety Seminar will enable you to improve the safety of your building. Designed for building engineers, property managers and facility managers, the seminar will cover OSHA requirements, safety tips, NFPA regulations and other code requirements. The speaker will be Dave Simans, lead engineer for Power Distribution Service. The seminar is approved for 3 hours of CEUs.

BOMA Luncheon and Annual Meeting. (November 14) BOMA luncheons are enjoyable and educational. They are also a valuable networking and professional development experience. New member orientation will precede the luncheon. Members may attend a BOMA luncheon at no charge by registering on or before the cut-off date which is the Friday before the luncheon. Membership is determined by an individual name, not company affiliation. Members who do not register by the cut-off date must pay a $25.00 late fee to attend the event.
November BOMA Bash.
