Energy Efficient Tax Deductions
The Internal Revenue Service recently released its advanced notice detailing how commercial building owners and leaseholders can qualify for a tax deduction for making their buildings energy efficient. The guidelines to the energy efficient commercial buildings section of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 will benefit many commercial property owners and managers who are making significant changes and improvements to reduce energy consumption. Click here for a full story.
Senior Home Blitz
The Community Service Committee recently teamed up with Pricewaterhouse
Coopers, Senior Citizen Services and Hands on Atlanta to sponsor the
Pricewaterhouse Coopers Senior Home Blitz. The one-day event, which
was on June 1, improved the quality of life for several low-income
Atlanta senior citizens. Throughout the day, 82 BOMA members volunteered
their time and expertise to do home improvement work for the area
residents. BOMA members also donated more than $30,000 in products
and services.
BOMA Executive Director Earns
Awards
Jim Moody, BOMA-Atlanta executive director, recently earned two awards
from the Georgia Society of Association Executives. He received the
Alan R. Johnson Award for servant leadership and the Benson Skelton
Award for recruiting the most new GSAE members last year. GSAE is
an association dedicated to advancing the profession of association
management.
Course for Engineers
The BTO is partnering with Chattahoochee Technical College to offer
a special Commercial HVAC Course for building engineers. The course
provides an opportunity to enhance service skills through hands-on

to become more proficient in the work environment. Course topics will
include commercial refrigeration systems, energy management, DDC controls,
pneumatic calibration, cooling tower maintenance, air handlers, pumps,
boilers, water and air balancing and other topics. Classes will meet
on Thursday nights from 5 to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks per semester and
are scheduled to begin September 14, 2006. The full program lasts
5 semesters. The course beginning in September is the first in the
five-semester series. For more information, call BOMA at 404-475-9980.
